Rajzel Żychlińsky

poetka polska

Rajzel Żychlińsky was a Polish-born American poet who wrote in Yiddish. Her literary career spanned six decades, during which she published seven collections of poetry. Born in Poland, Żychlińsky began her writing career there, releasing her first two collections in Warsaw in 1936 and 1939, just before the outbreak of World War II.

Żychlińsky's life was significantly impacted by the war, as she fled to the Soviet Union to escape the conflict, while many of her family members fell victim to the Holocaust. This experience had a profound influence on her subsequent work, which was largely written in the United States. Her postwar poetry reflects the trauma and loss she endured, and is a testament to her resilience and creative expression in the face of adversity.
